Yes, I'd agree. It's rather sacchrine.

And probably the original Air should have been left alone, too. It is
called Air on the G string because some 19th-century violinist used it as an
encore piece. He transposed it, so that he could play it all on the G
string. Bach's doesn't use just the G string. And that is an improper
designation, when it's not played all on the G string. But it's cute name
for a bikini, so it sticks.

Now should Bach have left "undeestoibed" Weiss's lute sonata when he added a
violin part to it? IF he did. (See the present thread on
rec.music.classical.guitar.)
