Buxtehude is the subject of a composer of the week series this week on
BBC Radio 3. You may tune to

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/

at 20:45 Greenwich time on weeknights this week, May 7 - 11. The music
that has been played before, expecially the organ works, is very
powerful and a good demonstration of Bach's indebtedness to this
precursor. An excellent commentary as well by Ton Koopman, organist
and conductor who has recorded all of Bach's cantatas and is now
engaged in a project to record all of Buxtehude's surviving works.

The programs are also available anytime for seven days after broadcast
by going to the main page, clicking on 'Composer of the Week', and
then you will see the archive of the week's shows which may be clicked
for re-broadcast. The more I hear this composer the better I like him,
especially the organ music which clearly formed an important part of
the great Bach's background.
